As every year, Pantone has published the color of the year. And we’re delighted with the choice of 2023. Viva Magenta is Pantone’s new color of the year.
Viva Magenta is a color defined as a bold and vibrant shade of crimson red. It’s a color that represents the strength and vitality needed to build a bright and positive future.
Everything has a color, but each tone expresses a different sensation. When we choose a color, we do it with an intention. Sometimes we want to share our tastes. Other times we want to stimulate emotions or provoke a reaction. And then there is the trend factor.
Pantone is the developer of the Pantone Matching System. It is a color identification, comparison and communication system for the graphic arts. Every year its experts choose the color that will govern the new trend. This year, the selection is PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta. According to Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman:
“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.”
A team of experts meets to make this decision. Leatrice Eiseman leads the committee. She does so alongside the institute’s vice president, Laurie Pressman, and the institute’s consultant, David Shah.
But they do not do it alone. A total of 40 professionals are gathering for the occasion. They belong not only to Pantone, but also to the International Colour Authority (ICA) and Intercolor. This process is based on an analysis that they study conscientiously to reach a consensus. This is a very important decision worldwide. The choice of the Pantone of the year will influence the trends for the whole year. Interior design, fashion, makeup, and the color of the year has a place in all fields of our lives.
Thus, Pantone is betting on a color that revives the soul and connects us with the strength of nature. Viva Magenta creates a great contrast to last year’s color, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, from the lilac range.
In contrast to the search for the natural in Viva Magenta, metaverse inspired Very Peri. According to Pantone, the color of 2021 combines the best of the metaverse
and the physical world. And it sought to create a modern atmosphere to offer a peek into the digital lifestyle.
With this radical change of perspective, Pantone expresses its vision of 2023. A year full of changes for which it wishes us all the strength necessary to make it possible.
